Why I Love to Work from Home

Posted by Alice Seba

Why I Love to Work at HomeI’ve been ordered by Carrie Lauth of Natural Moms Talk Radio and Natural Mom PLR to tell you why, as a mom, I love working from home.

I made a similar post in April, but you know…I find new things I love about being an at-home parent that earns a living from her computer.

1. Obviously, there are mommy benefits like being able to be there when my kids need me, seeing them off to school, greeting them when they get home and volunteering at school.

2. Biz-wise, I get to pick what I want to do, when I want to do it and how I get it done. I can also watch TV when I work, take a nap, bring the laptop onto the patio and snuggle with my puppies.

3. Hubby thinks it’s pretty cool too. Since I don’t qualify for Employment Insurance benefits, he gets a full 35 weeks (about 8 1/2 months) parental leave when the baby is born. :-) Don’t worry, I’ll keep him busy.

Overall, this is a pretty good gig.

So what about you? Feel free to participate and link to your post in the comments or just write your WHYs in the comments area.

But to keep this meme going for Kelly and her WAHM 2.0 blog, I will specifically tag:

Deb Gallardo
Aruni
Teresa Smolinksi (a.k.a. Treece)

Get to it!

I like working at home for the flexibility to run errands during the day, take a nap if the kids didn’t sleep the night before, do house stuff, and work without interruption.

However, my work at home situation is going to be changing soon. :-( I think it will be a good thing but it is certainly going to cut out any rare napping ability I had. :-)

Thanks for sharing Aruni…what’s changing about your work at home situation? Are you going out of the home?

Being a WAHSG can I still comment? :-)
*Work At Home Single Guy* - or simply WAHG since I’m not trying to get a date LOL

Of course, Dennis! Question is - Why do you love working from home? :-)

Thanks, Alice, for “tagging me” for keeping the meme going. I blogged about it at:

All readers will see my 200th blog post celebration message (complete with sparkly cake!) and have the opportunity to sign up to get my new pdf report on overcoming “Writer’s Block - The Dreaded Blank Page” as my gift.

I’ve passed on the torch, so I’m no longer “it.” Thanks again.

Well, I was part time for quite some time before being “forced full time home” in 2003 with back injuries…yes I feel your pain.

And when I say home, I mean parents as I could do nothing for myself for quite some time.

I’m still with them and it’s actually OK (believe it or not lol)…I’m able to save a lot of coin, help take care of them in their aging/elderly years AND work at what I love all at the same time!

One of the best parts? NO GUILT of “missing work” when things flare up and I have to lie in bed for a half-day or so.

HOW ABOUT? Open windows - working in a high-rise office building meant perma-shut windows, no air circulation, and constant sharing of germs with co-workers. I love the smell of fresh air while I work. It’s invigorating!
Also, I like being able to work in shorter shifts. Writing is draining for me and this way I get to take nice, long breaks throughout the day to go out into the world and get inspired.
I love working from home for many reasons-just wish the income was more steady.

Going with Tina’s first point…..being able to adjust the AC/Heat whenever ya darn well feel like it! LOL

    Just a few things I like…

Wearing comfortable clothes, jeans and a t-shirt or even sweats and slippers.

Listening to your favorite music if you want to, or enjoying peace and quiet without nose and interruptions.

No commute, saves time and stress and helps the environment.

Take a break whenever your body wants one, not when you may or may not fit one into the hectic busy-ness.

Drink the coffee that you like, not the corporate cup-of-blah.

Have laptop will travel — to a cafe or any place with wifi, so you are not chained to a desk.

But best of all, more time for your kids. Time to have breakfast with them, go for a bike ride after school, pick them up after school and go get an ice cream cone, etc.

Got something to say?
