Thursday's Three ThoughtsJust about every week, I give you 3 thoughts on a particular subject. Well, you know what? I’ve been depleted of thoughts! I know, it sounds crazy, but it’s true. I’m sure it’s just a temporary thing, but I’m hoping you’ll give me a little hand on this one.

And besides, listening to me all the time get…well…a little dull. I want to hear from you instead.

PLEASE POST YOUR 3 THOUGHTS on the 3 key activities for your online business.

Now, I don’t mean to give us your important business secrets, but what 3 general things do you do on a regular basis that are crucial to your success/productivity.

Can’t wait to hear!

  1. 1) You must plan for business growth – rapid growth won’t happen if you flow along day to day with routine business tasks. Real growth only happens when you take time to create a plan and then execute your plan
    2) Your plan execution success depends on creating systems that ensure consistency of action
    3) Tracking results and revising your plan regularly needs to be a part of your system to ensure that the strategies you put in place are effective

  2. How about 3 general things NOT to do?
    1) Don’t spend all day checking your e-mail
    2) Don’t spend your working time with social networking (that is for your extra time – even though it does have value)
    3) Don’t let distractions take you away from your core business building activities.

  3. Great topic! I love stuff like this!

1-Try to do one thing for marketing your biz every day.

2-Try to stay disciplined. I use a timer to control my email and twitter time.

3-Make a list daily of what you want to accomplish. I put the top 3 things that HAVE to be done at the top of the list.

  4. Great idea Alice.

    1) Have all your mail from various sources delivered to Microsoft Outlook (not express) and arrange set times to check it out, ie first thing, lunch time and before clocking off time. Turn off the delivery notification and alarm sounds as this is a distraction from the job in hand!

    2) I am only a newbie at all this but one trick I did pick up along the way is to categorise all your e-mail in advance using Microsoft E-Mail; ie create a rule so that IMSweetie arrives colour coded purple, while other stuff is red, blue, etc. This means that I just have to glance at the inbox to recognize important stuff.

    3) Enjoy reading the social e-mails & social networking in your own time, not when you’re working, especially if you have a deadline.

  5. 1. Planning (I’m not so good at this but getting there)
    2. Outsourcing (Not out tasking but outsourcing smartly)
    3. Downtime (Gotta have it or you’ll sink)

  6. What a great idea! Let others give you some food for thought and food for the blog.

    1) Research — Take time to find other Niches you can involved with. Research other keywords you can be targeting.

    2) Blog Commenting — I spend time almost everyday visiting other blogs. I at times feature good finds on my blog, site, and/or newsletter.

    3) Family Time — Business takes a lot of time away and focus away from the family. Make sure your giving back or they will begin to resent it.

Thanks everyone for your great ideas!

Stefani…what not to do is often just as important, especially for some of those highly addicting activities you mention. ;-)

  8. I almost thought that everyone had mentioned things that I would suggest, however, I was able to think of some new ones. Here they are:

1.) Keep educating yourself – online course, books, forums etc.
2.) Take advantage of any conferences for entrepreneurs and businesses – there are freebies out there, but don’t be afraid to spend money either.
3.) Something I am not good at remembering, is to use a signature line that includes: your business name, tag line and website.

  9. 1. Realise there are real people on the other side of your computer screen
    2. Don’t transfer any of your disappointment onto your customers. They never signed up for it anyway
    3. Smile Smile Smile. It didn’t cost you anything and when people manage to receive it they are all the better for it
