“Blogger Won’t Let Me Schedule Posts!” – Or Will It?

Wednesday Words from YouLast week, when I wrote my 3 thoughts on When You Just Don’t Feel Like It one of my readers Chicken Soup for the Social commented:

“Great list. I often don’t feel like blogging but sometimes you have to. Since blogger.com won’t let me post in advance I usually have to make time.”

Although I have to admit that one of the deciding factors for my switching to WordPress was the ability to easily schedule posts. It makes it easy to write something now and forget about it…so you blog when you feel like it. Of course, you can also pre-write entries for Blogger and then publish them later, but it kind of takes away the spontaneity.

But that’s no longer necessary…
If you want to actually schedule posts in Blogger it CAN now be done.

Blogger has recently introduced “Blogger in Draft” which requires you to log in at http://draft.blogger.com and from there you can schedule your posts. Here’s how it works:

1. Remember to log in at: http://draft.blogger.com

2. Write your post as usual. At the bottom, click post options as shown below:

Blogger Post Options

2. Change the date and time to reflect when you want your post to be scheduled:

Edit Date in Blogger

3. Click “Publish Post”:

Publish Post Blogger

4. You’ll then see a message like this that says your scheduling was a success:

Publishing Notice Blogger

Tada! Great news for Blogger users.

  1. Finally! Waaaay overdue

  2. Thanks!

  3. That was one of the deciding factors in my move over to WP, too. Nice to know they are finally implementing the feature.

  4. Charles

I’m surprised you’re not using WordPress. Isn’t it the primo platform?

  5. Alice

    Welcome guys…it’s about time, hey?

Charles, I do and have used both in the past. The info was for benefit of Blogger users. This blog started on Blogger and has been moved to Wordpress.

  6. Yes, about friggin’ time blogger! Thanks for sharing this with us, Alice. I had no idea they had this option now.

  7. Thanks for the walk-through on this feature – I had no idea it was available.

  8. Wow that is great, I had no idea you could do that on blogger now, it’s about time. I left them a long time ago, and am very happy with wordpress!

    Hi Alice,

Thanks for the info. and the walk-through! This was also one of the reasons I decided to go with WP, among a few others. It’s good information for those just starting a blog though!

    Warmly,

    April

  10. This is great news! I had no idea they updated it with this feature. I have been contemplating switching to wordpress, now I may not. The thing I like about blogger most is being able to email posts when I feel like it. I don’t think you can do that with WP?

  11. Thanks Alice. Much needed info and feature.

  12. Alice

Patty, yes you can blog by email with WordPress. You just need to set it up.

  13. Thanks Alice, I’ll have to check into switching over to it.

  14. Alice

Patty, you don’t need to “switch” anything. I just logged in using that link and it worked. You don’t have to upgrade your account or anything.

  15. I’m confused…what did you login to, what link? I meant I need to switch over to WP from blogger. Thanks!

  16. Hi again,
I tried doing this and I never got the message that says your message will automatically publish at…
    instead it published it instantly.

Any ideas why and how to fix?
    Thanks!

  17. Alice

I don’t know Patty. You aren’t using the free blogspot hosting, are you? Lynette said she had problems with that.

Other than that, I’d check with Blogger…but make sure you are logging in at: http://draft.blogger.com or it definitely won’t work.

    Good luck!
