John Reese’s Traffic Videos - Are They REALLY So Great?

Hey there! If you're new here, it'd be great to have you sign up for my RSS feed. If you need a feed reader, you can download one for free here. Thanks for visiting and your comments are welcome anytime.

Traffic Secrets Free VideoBy now, you’ve probably been beaten over the head with the fact that John Reese has released a couple of new videos to help promote the upcoming release of the 2nd edition of his wildly successful Traffic Secrets course.

The videos are content-driven and include some very practical suggestions for boosting your own website traffic.

Of course, you probably already know this because you’ve been emailed a hundred times, been bombarded on Twitter, Facebook and wherever else affiliates go crazy spreading the word.

(Don’t get me wrong, I AM using my affiliate link in this post - like John needs ALL the money from his sales :-) - but I wanted to wait to tell you about this until I had a chance to go through everything)

So What’s in the Videos? Are They Worth Watching?

To watch the first video, it takes nothing but a few minutes and you aren’t forced to opt into anything, so if you’re concerned about that…you can go right to the video page and get started.

But I know you’re busy and may be wondering what it’s all about before you take the time out of your day.

A Quick Answer: Definitely some solid information there that I’d be willing to bet MOST people don’t use, even if in the back of their minds they think they already know some of it.

A Longer Answer:

The first video (that you can watch at this page) is called “Results Detection” and includes very practical techniques to eliminate much of the trial and error process that comes with building traffic and an online business in general.

There are at least 8-10 specific ideas (I was trying to count, but pay attention at the same time…so may have missed a couple in the count) he provides to help you find out what is ALREADY working for traffic generation, instead of spending time and money to come to same conclusions.

Once you’ve finished watching that video, you have the opportunity to sign up for the Traffic Secrets notification list and view the next video entitled, “Own More of the Internet“.

This is a very powerful concept that I’ve been teaching my own students in a variety of my programs. It’s all about going wide with your efforts and reaching more prospects. I enjoyed John’s discussion of the concept because he has incorporated a good suggestions regarding the latest technology, content formats and publicity tools that are available today.

He also includes a very important advice that he rightly says so many online business owners don’t follow - and it’s all about planning ahead and seeing the big picture in all your content creation and traffic strategies. It may seem simplistic, but until you think about it and look at how you do your own planning, you might be surprised that you’re not really doing it either.

Other Thoughts

If you’ve been around the online business world for a few years, you may know that I credit the first Traffic Secrets course and John’s teachings with a huge boost in my success. In fact, you can still see my original bonus offer and success story when John relaunched the first version of the course.

What’s interesting is that 90% or likely more of what John taught in that first course is still applicable today. There are just a few things about Google Adwords, other pay-per-clicks and search engines that needed some updating. John could have done some minor editing and continued to sell the course, but from discussions with him and seeing these videos, it’s easy to see he’s taking a whole fresh approach and really harnessing the technology and tools available to us today. I for one, am looking forward to a whole lot more.

Take a look at the videos and let me know what you think.

Myth: You Can Buy Search Engine Optimized PLR Articles

Myth Crusher MondayI may have written on this topic before. I do know that we have definitely discussed it with our All Private Label Content members, but not sure if I’ve addressed it on this blog. But because I’ve seen the topic creep up in a few places in the past week or so, I thought it was worth a chit-chat.

Here is the myth: You can buy search engine optimized PLR (private label rights) articles.

If you ever been sold PLR articles on the basis that they were keyword researched and search engine optimized, I’m afraid that you were sold what I’d like to call the “PLR Dream”.

I am not suggesting it was done maliciously or that anyone was out to scam you. I’m saying that people try to sell us what we want to hear…not necessarily what is practical or real. It happens with PLR, information products and software every single day. Sometimes, we need to use our more critical eyes to see through it.

Here’s the problem and why should never rely on the “optimization” of PLR articles:

These articles are being sold to other people. If we all take the article, “How to Stop Snoring” and put it on our site, how many of us do you think will rank well for that very specific phrase?

Not many.

Now, I’m not totally naive. Despite the fact, that everyone talks about Google’s duplicate filters, there are plenty of top 20 search results that will show the same article for the same keyword phrase.

Regardless, if the article is sold 50, 100 or even 1000 times…there is no way that everyone who uses it will rank for the target phrase.

So What Should You Do?

Do your own simple keyword research. Take a few moments and use Wordtracker or Google’s search tool and find an alternate suitable phrase.

Change the article to reflect that new phrase and rework the article slightly for that phrase as well. You can also edit for style, to suit your audience, etc. if you want. Top it off by making links to the article with the new keyword phrase and you’re more prepared to see some traffic.

Our full monthly members (All Mom Content, All Health Content, All Finance Content & All Marketing Content) have access to a video and guide that explains the whole process. But in all seriousness, it’s not that complicated. Simple RE-optimization is what will bring you the traffic.

Now, if you see PLR being sold as search engine optimized, no need to run the other way. If the quality is good, simply take the few extra steps most members won’t and get your yummy piece of the search engine pie.

PLR Questions & Answers: That Ol’ Dupe Content Thang

Wednesday Words from You

Here is comment about private label rights (PLR) content that a reader named Hendra posted last week:

“The man who run the PLR site told his member that we just need to rewrite 30% of those articles before we post it on our site, in order to pass Google’s dupe check.

Because it was my first time making niche site, I went beyond 50% rewrite to play save. What surprised me was, when I check my website through copyscape, I saw 10 websites that had a certain percentage of the same content as my niche site had.

To make it short, I went rewrote the articles to make it significantly difference around 80%-90%. Which later I realize, I did so many errors with the grammar, etc.

I was so exhausted rewriting those articles, it took me almost an hour just to rewrite one :(

I stopped expanding the site after I got 10 article posted. I don’t even bother to post any article in ezines site, which was recommended for niche site owner to promote their site.”

Here are Hendra’s questions and my answers and these are based on my own use of PLR and separate from the fact that I sell PLR. I sell the stuff because I find it valuable for business. :-)

Q: How much rewrite do you recommend to be done?

A: Honestly, there is no magical formula and anyone who tells you a certain percentage is either saying what they heard from somebody else or just taking a guess. Sorry, if that upsets some people, but I find it rather frustrating that people try to put a mathematical formula on something that hasn’t been / can’t be proven mathematically.

The key is finding NEW keyword phrases to optimize for. If the article is entitled “How to Make Paper Airplanes” and everyone puts the article on their site with that title, incoming link, etc…then the chances of everyone ranking well for that phrase are nil. However, if you do some simple keyword research, to find a new keyword phrase to optimize for, you’ll do much better than just simply trying to run the article through copyscape.com over and over again.

Search engines are about relevance and if your article is relevant for a particular keyword phrase that others using the same article AREN’T targeting, your site is more likely to show in the results.

After the new optimization, I often make some changes to the article to make it more relevant to my audience, by changing the introductory paragraph, eliminating excess verbiage, etc…but I certainly don’t count how many words I changed or anything like that.

Q: Do you really think we should always rewrite an article that able to pass the copyscape check?

A: I don’t use Copyscape for this purpose. Only occasionally have I used it when checking on work from a ghostwriter to ensure it was indeed unique and original. For PLR, I don’t bother.

Q: The PLR membership I joined claimed to have only 200 member they share their package with. I think I can trust them, since they are one of the big name in PLR business. What number do you think I have to look for before join these kind of PLR membership?

They’re probably telling the truth. The only concern I have with some memberships (Note: I have no idea where you’re a member, so this isn’t about them) is that the content is shared among memberships.

I am not terribly concerned with the number of members in a membership because QUALITY is far more important to me, but when memberships used recycled content from other memberships, you really have no clue or control over it’s distribution. That’s why I encourage people to use PLR providers who do not offer any type of resell or giveaway rights to their PLR content. That way, you’ll know the content is intended for their members only.

I hope that helps with some of the questions. I know that people get pretty riled up by duplicate content and it’s a topic hotly debated…but most of that debate comes from guesses and not experience. My answers here are based on my own experience in generating traffic with what many would fear to be duplicate content.
