Information Product Challenge: Earn Extra Cash for the Holidays
Did you know that there are only 50 days until Christmas?
And we all know what that means…a list a mile long with those we have to buy presents for, a tree to purchase, decorations to replace, family portraits, and of course, plenty of holiday entertaining.
Unfortunately, the holidays can be quite expensive; even if you plan on cutting back this year you’re still going to have to spend some money.
Which leads me to my Information Product Challenge…
From now until the end of the month, I challenge you to put together an information product that you can sell next month to earn extra cash for the holidays.
I know you’re thinking: “But people don’t spend money in December!”
I beg to differ. People spend a whole lot of money in December, even on information products. I think it has to do with a couple of things:
- People are in a buying mood
- The new year is coming and people are getting ready to better their lives and themselves (business and personal)
In fact, I’ve heard from many business owners saying that they make more money during the month of December than all the others.
So with that said; first things first…
Challenge Day 1:
1) Choose your idea. You likely already have a few ideas for an information product, but if you don’t, write down some common questions your market has. Then pick one that you want to focus on, and answer in your information product.
2) Outline your product. Before you go any further, you’ll need to decide what your information product is going to consist of. Will it be a single report? An ebook with audio? Will you have interviews, videos, etc.?
Once you have a good idea of what your product is going to be, it will be easier to plan putting it all together.
Remember, you only have until November 30th to complete your information product, so don’t expect to be able to put together this massive product. Keep is simple.
3) Set a budget. When planning out your budget you’ll need to keep a few things in mind:
- Do you need to buy a domain name or do you already have one that will be suitable?
- Will do the all the writing yourself, or will you be outsourcing all or some of it, or do you have PLR you can use?
- Will you need graphics?
- If you plan to do audio interviews, will you be providing a transcript? If so, will you transcribe it or will you hire someone?
- Do you need a way to deliver your downloadable information product? If so, how much will it cost you? I recommend WahmCart for an inexpensive option (and it’s not just for moms either).
Freebie Coming Up
To help you get your schedule on track and get things accomplished, I’m putting together a really cool freebie that I’ll post for you on Monday Nov. 9th. So keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, follow the 3 steps above and get started.
Prize Alert!
Of course I couldn’t have a challenge without giving away a prize. So here’s what I’m going to do. You do the challenge, and at the end of the challenge, you can let us know where your new product is located, and we’ll enter your name into our drawing for a 1 year membership to the Sweetie Saturday Report Club (I’ll let you know how this works at the end of the challenge).
And don’t think you’re going this alone, because I’m doing the challenge too. So be sure to leave a comment and let me know you’ll be joining in.
Good luck!
P.S. Check out Information Product Sweetie for all the nuts and bolts on creating your own information product.

Great challenge, Melissa. I’m sure you’ll get many to jump on board. I just might…
And thanks for the reminder that Christmas is, like, seriously almost here!
Nell
Well…I have one ALMOST ready.
Or an old one that needs jazzing up.
Decisions, decisions…

Thanks for doing this Melissa…it’s a great kick in the butt for everyone. Me included.
I am currently working on a small info product…and a bigger project toward the end of the month. I think I’ll play along.
By the way, if someone is at a loss for coming up with product ideas, how to put everything together, etc…they really should sign up for the Information Product Sweetie course. REALLY!

What a great idea! I’ve been thinking about doing another info product or two but never seem to get around to it or make time for it, so count me in!
This is a great idea. I’ve already got something in the works, I’m just not sure if the topic is appropriate for Christmas. Does anything go in December?

Way to go, guys!
Melissa is out most of the day, but I’m sure she’ll be happy to see people getting on board and will have some comments later.
Michele – if you think it’s not the right time of year right now, certainly there is another topic you might cover. You’ll want to create more than one information product so you can get your customers to keep buying more of your terrific offerings!
But then again, don’t doubt yourself too much on the topic. Obviously, if it’s truly seasonal, then that would make sense, but perhaps what you feel isn’t timely could be timely. Do you see others selling something similar at only certain times a year? Or why do you think it might not be the right time?
Hey there,
It isn’t the product that’s the problem… I have a few of those. It’s the selling part!
I look forward to that part of the challenge!
I’ve been putting off an idea, but I think December will be the perfect time to get it out there. Thanks for the challenge!

Hi Monica,
Glad to have you on board. Be sure to check back for a cool freebie on Monday. It will help you get things rolling
I am absolutely IN!! Thanks for the inspiration! I have been meaning to do this, and just haven’t made the time for it. NOW is the time – Thanks!!
(Would be super cool to win a prize too, so thanks for that extra bonus incentive!)
I have two ideas, working on them both currently. One is an ebook and the other is more like a single report I guess? It’s much shorter but still not completed still may end up something bigger.
I will say I am in and which ever I get done by the deadline I will submit
Yes! Count me in. I have an idea, but I’ve been making it too complicated. I’ll just do it. Keep it simple. Get it done.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Jennifer: So glad to have you joining me, can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Chrissy: Sounds like a plan! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to create something big. We’re working towards doable, so a single report sounds perfect for this challenge
Ann: That’s the way…keep it simple and you’re more apt to get it done
