Being Loyal To Your Customers

Big eyesYesterday, I had great interview with Cindy Rushton and she asked me about how gaining a loyal following online. I do know that I am blessed with a very loyal group that faithfully read my content, buy my products and in short, trust me to guide them with their online businesses. At times, I’ve found that thought overwhelming, but I absolutely take the responsibility very seriously.

Among other things, I told her loyalty from your readers/customers comes from:

  • Taking the time to understand where they’re coming from – they’re needs, hopes, wants and fears. This is an ongoing job and I learn new things about my market every single day.
  • Creating/selling quality and relevant products that they are craving. This goes hand in hand with the first point about understanding my market.

But more importantly, I said it comes down to being loyal to my own audience and doing what I feel is in their best interest. Sure, I may be wrong sometimes and my readers have the right to make their own choices, but I do not fall over for the almighty buck.

I mean, let’s take a look at my market. I target people who are serious about their online business, understand the need to invest wisely, but these are hard working people who would love to save money where they can, ethically cut corners if they could and generally would love a quick-fix if it existed (Seriously, who wouldn’t?!).

Well, as you probably know, there are plenty of products and opportunities the promise that quick fix that I could very easily promote. But I don’t. Because I don’t believe they’re right for my serious-minded readers who want to build a long-term online business.

Of course, I could be blowing smoke right here, but you’re my subscriber, my blog reader, my customer. How does my loyalty to you make a difference?

And more importantly, how can you translate this type of loyalty over to your business?

I wish more marketers were like you Alice. It would cut down on a lot of confusion.

I understand they have to make money. But the reason we followed them in the first place was to get a specific business model to follow.

Then they promote everything else possible and instead of helping, they create more confusion.

    Where does it end?

  • Vern:

I agree with Steven right to the point of “Where does it end?” Answer: When we click the ‘unsubscribe’ link and come back to the basics of ‘trust and loyalty’ in our own marketing.

I’ve learned a lot from this site and the people involved here. It’s good to know a person can get ‘straight’ answers, without a ‘motive’ behind them. And yes, we all know that we’re ‘in business’, but that shouldn’t keep us from ‘giving’, before ‘taking’…

Thanks Alice, for the great words.

  • Fabulous post – Alice, you are loyal to your readers, and I really hope I am loyal to mine. it is not just about making money, but making your customers happy and improving the lives of others. The money will come when you prove your worth.

  • Charles:

Customers? That would be nice. I’d treat them special. Don’t know how to get them however. What I thought would work didn’t. Still trying to figure things out.

The info overload has me immobilized. Cannot get past square one, even after 100′s and 100′s of hours researching, reading, etc.

Those that can find something that works and stay focused are the winners. Trouble is, what works and how long can you persist not making money?

Thanks for the feedback everyone…it’s always appreciated.

Charles…sometimes you just gotta get out of the get and not worry so much about figuring things out. The best know to know what to do is try something and see if it works. If it doesn’t, try some different. Sounds like you have a lot of knowledge under your belt. Now’s the time to start using it! Good luck!

  • Charles… “Hint” Look at the highlighted names here. Go to their sites, look around, see what they are doing – mimic!

If you have a website [if not, that's your 1st problem], use it to highlight ‘your’ name, so we can look to see if ‘we’ can help out. That’s one of the purposes for this blog – help! Right Alice??
