What Do You Prefer: Writing or Speaking?

Thursday's Three ThoughtsI’ve always had trouble expressing myself verbally. Whether it was expressing my feelings, explaining a process or even sometimes regular old conversion, I’d often clam up.

CONFESSION! Even now, when I’m interviewed, I write down my answers in advance because the thoughts just don’t come together. I need to write things down to get my thoughts in order.

Of course, not everyone is like that. Others loathe writing and will take speaking over writing any day. And the lucky ones are good at both.

So what about you? Do you prefer writing or speaking?

  1. I prefer to write as well though I am only slightly better at it then speaking in public.

  2. I enjoy speaking more. I enjoy writing too but it’s more of an effort. I lose time more when I’m talking.

  3. Speaking for sure. I can’t begin to tell you how many times conversations start on IM and I end up calling the person (where applicable) because we just keep missing each others thoughts.

    Frustrating to say the least.

I like to do both. I am just a people person. I prefer to write when I want to gather my thoughts and make sure I have EVERYTHING down that I want to say because it is easy to get off track when talking sometimes.
Then other times I prefer to talk when I have so much to say to someone or about something that I don’t want to take the time to write it all down. But even then I will usually write down and outline of all the points that I want to make sure I cover to keep from forgeting pieces.

  5. Writing! I’ve never been much of a talker.

  6. Hi Alice,
You would think writing for me by the number of times that I make comments around your blog BUT it is actually speaking.
I am a verbal processor and some of my best ideas have come when talking with people rather than locked away thinking.
Also I love having a room full of people who want to learn because that’s where the interaction can bring brilliant ideas to the surface.
