How Do I Get More Incoming Links?

Q:
How do I get more incoming links?

A: Of course, you can use link exchanges and things like that, but I don’t recommend it and I don’t bother. A “reciprocal link” (one that goes back and forth between to websites) is given less weight by a search engines. I personally haven’t found any link exchanges to produce any significant amounts of traffic to be worthwhile, but use your judgment.

If you are trying to get links for the purpose of link popularity or to have keyword-rich links coming in, I always recommend focusing your efforts on acquiring one-way links — in other words a link to your site that you don’t have to reciprocate.

You can do this by:

- Distributing articles (Here an article writing tutorial you might find handy)
- Sending out press releases (Sign up for a free press release course)
- Placing your links in free and paid directories
- Creating a “Link to Us” page. Just make a page with information on how to link to you — don’t make it an “exchange”. If you have good content, you’d be surprised at how many people will link to you.
- Making blog comments on blogs that create a direct link to your website (there is some evidence that these hold less weight with search engines too…due to problems with blog spam).

Just a few ideas to get you started. Good luck!
