How Do You Make Those Pop-Ups That Look Like Notes?
A: I actually used a yearly service called Instant Attention to create those pop-ups. It allowed me to choose different styles and colors of unblockable pop-ups and I could manage everything from one place. The downfall was that it carries a $97 yearly fee, I could only do 10 pop-ups at a time and the pop-up was hosted by Instant Attention (instead of on my site).
Well, I was pleased to find out that Armand Morin has released his new software, Focus Generator that does the same thing — but it has a one-time fee and is hosted on my own site. At the time of my answering this question, I am going to be switching over to Armand’s software and make my pop-ups that way.
But yes, there are free options to create these post-it notes yourself. If you like to fiddle with code, here are a few scripts:
- Free Sticky Note Script
- Free Drop-In Content Note Box: something similar…you can see this page for an example.
I purchased Focus Generator instead of using the free option because it makes things a lot easier and quicker for me. I can control fonts, the look of my notes (there are 55 design options to choose from), where I link to and a bunch of other variables in WYSIWG (What you see is what you get) format…I don’t like messing with code and like to see what my pop-up will look like right away. I can also have Focus Generator automatically edit the HTML document I want modified instead of having to insert the code myself.
These pop-ups (by Instant Attention, Focus Generator & the free ones) can’t be blocked by any pop-up blocker that I’m aware of and they have increased my response rates dramatically. I’ve toyed around with traditional pop-ups and found my response rates declining — likely because they were being blocked by pop-up blockers. So these gave me renewed faith in using pop-ups.
I’ve used these unblockable pop-ups to promote affiliate products with good results. I’ve also used them to grab a visitor’s attention and draw them into my copy (a trick I learned from Michel Fortin – who also reports great results with these post-it notes)…and my response rates improved greatly.
I know some people worry about using pop-ups because they are “annoying”, but the fact of the matter is that they can work wonders to your conversion rates. If a larger percentage of your audience responds to your offers…to me…that means that your target prospect is not bothered by a pop-up, but rather responds to them in the way you want them to.
Let the results speak and do what your target prospect needs to push that order button!
