A: Please don’t buy a list. Build your own highly-targeted and responsive list. If you buy a list those on the list will not know you and it will likely result in spam complaints and a highly unresponsive list. And realistically, you have NO idea how these lists for sale were built. Email marketing is about relationship-building, so build that relationship yourself.

If you want to access large targeted email publications, consider joint venture offers with those who already have a large list targeting our market. Give the list owner a product to review and give them a commission to recommend it to their subscribers. A personal recommendation from someone who built and maintains the relationship with the list is far more powerful than buying a list.

You can also buy ads in newsletters or ezines targeting your market. It’s not as good as a joint venture, but recommended over buying a list. Search for “ezine directory” on your favorite search engine and you’ll find a number of potential lists to advertise with.

And don’t forget to build your own list at the same time. That is one of your most valuable assets!
