Q: Where can I distribute my press release online?

A: There’s a lot of websites popping up that allow you to post your press release at no charge.

Nothing is ever going to replace building your own local and offline media list. Online press release distribution is just icing on the cake as far as media attention goes.

However, there is a very good benefit to posting your releases online – and that’s the links it creates back to your site. You may know that search engines will give your site more consideration if they can determine your site is “popular” and they do this by seeing the links coming into your site. In those cases, it doesn’t hurt to have some extra links coming to you from the press release sites.

But again…if you want true media exposure, please don’t spend huge amounts of time on your online distribution. The list above is huge and it would take you hours to distribute to all them. That’s not the best use of your time.

If you’d like a handy tool to help automate the process for you, I recommend you check out Jeff Alderson’s Press Equalizer. It allows you to input your press release, ensure it’s formatted appropriately to the submission sites’ guidelines and then does the submission for you.

But a word of warning…there is some initial set-up that you’ll have to do in using the software. A number of the submission sites require that you register to submit. You’ll need to register for accounts and put your log-in details into the software.

You’ll also want to review each of the sites to ensure your press releases will be appropriate for the website – please don’t use this software to spam these websites.

Once you have it set up, things go a lot more quickly and it will just be one small extra step in your press release submission software.
