How To Track Your Affiliate Programs

Q. I’ve joined several affiliate programs but I’m having problems tracking everything.

A.  First you need to have one place where you keep track of all your information. Having it organized will save you time when you want to add a link to your page or view your sales for the month. I recommend you use a spreadsheet program such as Excel to keep all this information together.

Some of the things to track in your spreadsheet are the company name, a link to the log-in page for that particular program, your user name and password, and your affiliate links.

Beyond that you will want to track your website stats. If you are running any ads for a product, you will also want to keep track of where they are running as well as your conversion rates.

Website Stats

Your website statistics can give you some powerful information about your site so you may want to check them every day. You can learn how many visitors have been to your site, as well as the pages they entered and exited.

Most affiliate programs will have a section where you can log in and view the number of clicks you are receiving and to what area. You will want to keep track of this information so you can determine what your visitors are interested in and what they aren’t. Then you can adjust your affiliate programs accordingly.

Tracking Services

You might also consider subscribing to an ad tracking service. This is helpful when you are promoting something with paid advertising.  You enter you affiliate link for the product you are promoting into the ad tracker and it will generate a new link to place in your ad. When someone clicks on that link it will redirect them to your affiliate link while tracking the number of hits it receives. This will allow you to determine if the ad you bought was worth your money.

It may take a little extra time to track everything but it’s worth it and can be more profitable in the long run.
