Patrysha Korchinski
As a marketing consultant, Patrysha specializes in providing marketing and promotions solutions for small business clients. As a mother, she specializes in controlling mayhem. Oddly enough, the roles have much more in common than one might expect.
“You have to be flexible and versatile,” she says, “and get to the root of problems without coming off like too much of a know-it-all ogre.”
Flexible has defined her career since she originally came home eleven years ago. Starting as a home childcare provider she added direct sales and writing to the mix within a year.
“I failed miserably at direct sales because I simply didn’t have enough passion for the products. I loved them, but couldn’t see myself paying full price for them and that made it too darn hard to convince others to,” Patrysha explains, “Being frugal worked against me at the time, but my clients love me for it now. They know I’m going to suggest strategies that are proven effective and the absolute best deal for the price.”
As her husband took jobs throughout Northern Canada to advance his teaching career, Patrysha transitioned into writing from home full time and began studying marketing and public relations.
“Writing on its own wasn’t enough,” says Patrysha, “It takes forever and a day to get published the traditional way and I have about as much patience for that as my children do, so I started to delve into business writing and that meant learning how to write in ways that sell and persuade.”
When they moved back to civilization, Patrysha took all her marketing and PR knowledge into a day job with a local radio station.
I’ve always been fascinated by radio, going so far as to go to broadcasting school after high school,” says Patrysha, “so when this job appeared it seemed like a cosmic sign and I went with it.”
“I was a top producer at the station almost every month for the nearly two years I was there. It was a fantastic learning experience as I got to understand the nuances of audio advertising and the needs of brick and mortar businesses,” she continues, “but ultimately I discovered that I’m an entrepreneur at heart and that makes me a lousy employee. I was constantly frustrated at only being able to provide one marketing alternative to clients and at the lack of innovation that was allowed in the sales department. So I struck out on my own again.”
Patrysha now operates PK Marketing Solutions from her corner office in the kitchen and provides promotions and marketing assistance locally and online to a diverse range of clients.
“The beauty of it is that clients get to decide whether they just want me to write a brochure or press release or ghostwrite a 200 page e-book,” says Patrysha, “or whether they want full access to my experience and ideas with a comprehensive marketing and public relations package that integrates online and offline techniques.”
